The Bane Chronicles: The Course of True Love (And First Dates)
Alec was late. He was really late. Late enough that he was pretty sure Magnus would have given up on him. Damn Jace wanting to train and Alec's inability to think of a good enough excuse to get out of it.
He'd rushed through a shower and pulled on a light-blue shirt that was actually new. Izzy said it did good things for his eyes. Alec hoped they were good enough for Magnus to forget that he was supposed to be there more than twenty minutes ago. He also hoped Izzy had been right about the cologne. He'd never worn cologne before.
As he sprinted through the Brooklyn streets to Magnus's loft, Alec dodged between pedestrians and once or twice vaulted a low wall that was in his way. He couldn't be bothered to stop for things like red lights, so he just flitted between (or over) cars where necessary. He was already late, but he didn't have to be any later.
By the time he got to Magnus's loft and threw himself at the buzzer, he actually needed to catch his breath.

"Oh," Alec said, a little embarrassed. "It was nothing. I mean...that's what we're here for, aren't we? Shadowhunters, I mean. We have to help anyone who needs help. We have to protect people."

Magnus takes a good long look at Alec.watching him apply iratzes as he drips sweat and breathing hard.
"I don't think we're going to get a drink in here; there's much too long a line" he says slowly, "Let's have a nightcap back at my place."

The walk back to Magnus's apartment was long but nice. Romantic, with the moon shining over Brooklyn Bridge.
"I'm really glad your friend called you to help that girl. I'm really glad you asked me along," Alec said. "I was surprised you did, after how things were going before."

He knew he'd be bad at this.

"It was my fault. I got everything wrong, even before I showed up. You knew how to order at the restaurant, and I had to stop myself laughing at that stupid song on the subway, and I have no idea what I'm doing, and you're...you're a...glamorous.

Magnus paused, and Alec acted on instinct, since it had served him well so far. He reached out and took hold of Magnus's arm, just above his elbow, where Magnus had held him when they'd kissed. "Magnus," he said softly, and he leaned into kiss Magnus, soft and gentle.

Magnus bites down hoping to leave a mark on that pale skin.

Running his hands over Alec's shoulders and down the long lean curve of his back. Enjoying the wildness of his kisses.

Shyly, not sure it's allowed, Alec unbuttons Magnus's waistcoat, letting his hands slide under it, exploring the skin beneath. His fingers trembled slightly.
