Alec Lightwood is a Shadowhunter stationed with his family at the New York City Institute. His job is to fight demons and enforce the Accords between Shadowhunters and Downworlders. His character wiki is here. This Alec is the book version rather than the TV version.

Alec is roughly 6 feet tall with jet black hair and dark blue eyes. He's physically very fit, but he puts no effort into his clothing (black and functional) and his hair looks like he cuts it himself. In the dark. He has several permanent tattoos, one on the back of his right hand, of runes that give him extra-human abilities. In addition to the permanent tattoos, he has the scarred remains of temporary runes littered across his skin, delicate pale lines sometimes described as being like snowflakes.
