City of Bones: Night Fever

From the van to the infirmary, Alec remembers almost nothing. Scurried movements, mumbling voices.

He remembers Hodge, remembers the familiar touch of adamas to his skin. He doesn't remember moving to his room, but he knows he's in his own bed when the fire in his veins starts to burn through his skin and he begins to scream for his family.

He tries to scream, at least, but his voice sounds like a whisper to his fevered ears.

Slowly, slowly, the pain lessens, the burning cools. Alec's fingers, gripping tight around Magnus's wrist, loosen slightly.

He's still fevered, still dizzy with blood loss, but the screaming in his mind and in his throat, have quieted.

Magnus starts to sweat pouring every bit of himself into the healing spells.

He can see the pain in Alec's face, his whispered screams for his family, for his parabatai. This sweet young Nephlim.

Even as the pain begins to fade, Alec's eyelids drooping heavily, he keeps his grip on the warlock's wrist, like a lifeline, keeping him anchored in this world, out of the grip of fevered demonic realms.

Magnus can feel the tension in Alec's grip weakening but he knows that he can't let up just yet. This is venom from a greater demon.

Face serious, brow furrowed. Hand moving around the torso and face.

Magnus's fingers are cool, certain, everywhere they touch, relief follows, from the burning of the fever, from the sharp pain of his injuries.

In a space of time almost too small for Alec to register, everything shifts, from burning up to chilled, shivering even as sweat breaks out over him. He's mumbling nonsense, clinging to Magnus's wrist hard, the weakness from his injury all that keeps him from hurting Magnus.

The warlock can feel the strength even in this weakened state.

He listens to Alec, glad that the fever has broken.

Placing his free hand over Alec's. Murmuring to him, hoping to get him to sleep and rest.

Magnus's voice is is as soothing as his touch, and slowly, Alec relaxes, but his fingers stay where they are, curled around Magnus's steady wrist.

Magnus knows that the Shadowhunter is delirious, doesn't know it's him, it's still nice.

His cat eyes double checking his patient again, making certain that he hasn't missed anything. But he doesn't let go of Alec, not yet. His family and parabatai are off dealing with something else.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, as the fever releases its grip, Alec is aware of whose wrist he's holding, who came to him when he was in pain. He doesn't know why, but it doesn't matter. "Magnus Bane," he murmurs as he dips into sleep.

His only response is a whispered, "Rest"

Alec doesn't quite fall asleep, but he dozes, jerking awake occasionally, gripping Magnus's wrist tighter, and then settling back into sleep.

He snores.

Just a little.

Alexander is getting better, but something must be troubling him. He isn't sleeping well.

Magnus isn't certain if it's an effect of the demon or if this is how he normally is.

The after-effects of the poison are still troubling him, but he hasn't been sleeping well since the incident with Clary. Throwing himself in front of Abaddon hadn't done anything to assuage his fear that she might say something, to Jace, to Hodge...anyone.

His body, though, is exhausted, and eventually, even the last fitfulness leaves him, and he sleeps.

Once the Shadowhunter falls asleep the warlock takes one beat before standing and leaving the room, and the handsome boy.
